The PlayMedia Video Group (PVG) is responsible for developing and refining standards-based video technologies corresponding to the specifications of leading manufacturers of microprocessors and developers of operating systems.

PlayMedia® is developing its first of a series of video playback, encoding and streaming technologies for multiple OS/Processor combinations utilizing MPEG-4, the standard for multimedia for the fixed and mobile Internet.

Branded 4Play®, this System is being designed and deployed to provide the highest quality, yet the most cost-effective end-to-end solution for secure (or cleartext) audiovisual content distribution across multiple terminals. 4Play® will accommodate all digital distribution networks and PlayMedia has a particular focus on mobile implementations for GPRS and 3G.

The first of these technologies, the 4Play® MPEG-4 Video Decoding Engine has been optimized to provide the highest quality playback of massively popular Internet-distributed MPEG-4 movies as popularized in the DivX™ format.

The 4Play® Video Decoding Engine will expand the market by providing consumer electronics and mobile terminal manufacturers extremely reasonable and flexible licensing terms and conditions.  This OEM-sensitive approach is in sharp contrast to the policies of certain other vendors who may require that OEM’s license more components than they want or need.

PlayMedia's 4Play® Video Encoding Engine is optimized for ARM-based processors, such as Intel's PXA-series applications processors.
